Hello Fresh Review
You have probably seen Hello Fresh all over Instagram through influencer sponsorships and I’ve always been curious if the food is actually good. Last week, I had the chance to try it out when planning a team bonding event where we each received a Hello Fresh box and cooked together over Zoom! We each got 2 meals in our box; one to cook together as a team and a second one of our choice to cook on our own time. When I received my box, I found a bag for each meal that had all the ingredients I needed, portioned out for 2 servings. Along with the ingredients, there was a sheet with cooking instructions! I thought everything was well-packaged and the ingredients looked fresh!
Meal 1: Zucchini & Tomato Flatbread with Lemon Ricotta + Basil
The first meal I tried was the Zucchini & Tomato Flatbread with Lemon Ricotta + Basil. I was pleasantly surprised and thought this was really tasty! The instructions were simple to follow and it was quick to make!
This was a vegetarian option from their menu and would be great for an appetizer, but didn’t feel filling enough as a meal by itself, so I sautéed some shrimp to put on top. Others on my team felt similarly and customized their flatbread by adding some chicken or meat of their choice on top! Overall, I still really enjoyed the flatbread and it made a good first impression for Hello Fresh!
Meal 2: Santa Fe Pork Tacos
For my second meal, I made Santa Fe Pork Tacos! This was even easier to make than the flatbread. All I had to do was cook the pork, mix the cabbage salad, and build my taco! In my opinion, these were just okay and I prefer the tacos that I’ve made at home in the past. Though, a nice thing about Hello Fresh is that everything’s portioned out perfectly, so you don’t have a ton of ingredients left over (i.e. if you don’t use sour cream often, you wouldn’t need to buy a whole tub for a taco night).
Overall Thoughts
I had a really great experience with Hello Fresh and can totally see why it is so popular! Of the two meals I tried, I definitely preferred the flatbread and can see myself taking the recipe and making it again in the future! Would I use it again? Maybe, but only on occasion since I have amazing cooks in the family who enjoy the cooking process and makes a variety of cuisines. I would also not recommend Hello Fresh if you have a lot of dietary restrictions since they don’t have vegan or gluten free options; though, people on my team got creative with modifying their recipe like making cauliflower crust or making a vegan ricotta for the flatbread.
So who is Hello Fresh great for?
People who are learning how to cook - I love that Hello Fresh makes cooking less daunting. By having all the ingredients portioned out already and easy instructions, they make it so anyone can cook! If you’re new to cooking, this is a fun, easy way to start learning!
People who are busy - If you don’t have time to go grocery shopping or if you’re not home often and don’t want a lot of produce sitting in the fridge, Hello Fresh is a great option! All you need to do is pick your meals out for the week and you won’t have to worry about what you’re going to cook for dinner!
People who want to try something new - While I can’t see myself using Hello Fresh on a regular basis, it’s a fun experience to try! I’ve always loved how food bonds people and Hello Fresh is a fun activity to do with coworkers for team bonding, your family, or your partner. At the same time, it’s a great place to get recipe inspiration!
If you’ve tried Hello Fresh, I’d love to hear about your experience with it in the comments!
